As reported in Projections, the Clear Lake area’s population, based on the 2000 Census, is approximately 200,000.

Newcomers will be happy to know that Houston's cost of living remains well below those of most major metropolitan areas. The region has an overall cost of living that is 5 percent below the national average for all communities and 17 percent below the average for major metropolitan areas.

| Climate |

| Houston features mild winters and relatively cool summer nights. Temperatures range from 45 to 67 degrees in the winter and in the summer from 71 to 92 degrees. Spring and fall temperatures are in the 57-79 degree range. Due to its mild climate, Houston has a growing season of approximately 300 days a year with a minimal risk of frost damage to plants. Precipitation averages nearly 50 inches per year, and snowfall is rarely recorded. |

The Clear Lake area is served by three modern hospitals with Life Flight capability and 40 medical groups/clinics. More than 200 physicians, surgeons and general practice physicians, and 132 dentists have practices in the Clear Lake area and cover a wide range of specialties.
Houston is also home to the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the largest and one of the most successful medical care and research facilities in the world. The TMC’s institutions include seven general and six specialized hospitals with 6,327 licensed beds and occupy more than 100 permanent buildings on campuses with 675 acres. This medical complex, comprised of approximately 42 member institutions, employs approximately 51,000 persons. Approximately 4.5 million patients visit the TMC every year. Some 30,000 of these are international patients who come to the Center for its life-saving
technology and medical techniques.
